6 Ways To Handle Stress While Finding A Surrogate in Sacramento

Your fertility journey has likely been one that has been filled with stress – so much so that you feel like it is just part of you at this point. It doesn’t have to be like that – you don’t have to be stressed out when finding a Surrogate in Sacramento, for example. This can come from choosing a surrogacy agency that you trust, working with a team that has experience, and having a really great surrogate.

Even so, many of us will have stress when everything is going exactly according to plan. So how can you handle that stress? Here are some tips for Intended Parents who are anywhere in their journeys:

Think About What You Can Control

There are things we can control in this life and there are things that we cannot control. While you can’t necessarily control the weather on a certain day, you can control how you react. If traffic gets backed up and you miss an appointment, for example, you can feel disappointment but you don’t need to add to that stress by going for fast food for lunch, which will make you feel sick later in the day.

The worst thing you can do in an already stressful situation is adding to that stress by making poor decisions. Every day, think about what is in your control and what isn’t – and go from there.

Get (Healthy) Coping Mechanisms

If you know that you are going to be stressed (and you likely will at some points in the surrogacy journey), you may want to find healthy coping mechanisms. Deep breathing is a great one for people who tend to get stressed when they are in public or in the car.

Other people enjoy going to the gym, working on crafts, reading, dancing, or playing with their dogs. Find what works for you and ensure that you have access to it on a regular basis.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness doesn’t have to be meditation, but it can be. Essentially, it is taking a few moments and checking in on yourself – no looking at your phone, no outside stimuli, no other people. Breathe deeply, focus on how you feel, check in on your mental health, or completely clear your brain.

There are many different ways to be mindful – you just have to find the one that works for you.

Exercise

As mentioned, a healthy coping mechanism is to exercise. It can be as simple as stretching (for those times when you are stressed and at work) or going for a nice, long run on the treadmill. Walking, dancing, and playing group sports can also help you to ease your stress.

Ensure That You Sleep

Once you become a parent, sleep will be something that you covet, so make sure that you get enough now. When we are stressed, many of us actually lose sleep, and then we are even more stressed. It’s a vicious cycle.

Everyone should try to get at least seven or eight hours of sleep per night. If you have trouble, you may want to look into natural methods of inducing sleep, cutting back your time on your phone, or simply buying a new mattress.

Start Writing

For so many people, writing has been the best way to reduce their stress. Whether you want to journal every day for a few minutes or you simply want to take a few seconds to write down a word or intention for the day, if you start writing, you will feel better.
