Become a Parent through Egg Donation: What You Need To Know

If you are considering becoming a parent through Egg Donation, there are a few things that you need to know about the egg donation process. This is something that has been used for decades, but it isn’t something that is actively talked about unless you need one.

Egg donation is very different for the different parties involved. For the Egg Donors themselves, there is a whole set of steps they will need to take. For the Intended Parents, there are different steps and additional information that you need to know.

Egg Donation Is Extremely Regulated

Not just anyone can become an Egg Donor. At EDSI, we have specific standards that our Egg Donors need to meet. This is because we want to help grow healthy families, so we look for Donors that will have the healthiest eggs.

Egg Donation is regulated by the FDA so everyone involved is protected and safe.

Egg Donors Are Screened By Multiple Parties

Another thing you need to know is that Egg Donors are screened for any medical problems, of course, but they are also screened for any mental health-related issues. These screenings can help to prevent passing on any mental illnesses to the baby, and they help to keep the Egg Donor safe. Some women do not have the mental aptitude to donate eggs, and that is okay, but it is important to screen them so that they don’t.

Sometimes Egg Donors Remain Anonymous, Sometimes They Don’t

Often times, the woman donating her eggs will decide to remain anonymous. However, this isn’t always the case. If you are looking for an Egg Donor who wants to be known, then you can request that. All of this information will be sorted out before you sign any contracts or get the eggs. Once the contracts have been signed, neither party can go back on their words of anonymity.

Women Donate Eggs For All Kinds Of Reasons

Does the reason why someone donated their eggs matter to you? If it does, you may be able to narrow it down to their specific reasons. Women will sometimes put the reason why they are donating their eggs in their Egg Donor profiles.

Some women will use the money they are compensated from this process to put down payments on homes, pay off school loans, move across the country, get out of debt, or for some other reason. Sometimes, they don’t want to raise children of their own but they want to help others create their own families.

Women Will Donate Eggs For More Than One Family

Another thing to be aware of is that some women will donate eggs for a few different IVF cycles, meaning there could be multiple children born from her eggs. Sometimes, those eggs will all go to one family so that the children can be related. Other times, they will be used for different families.

In some cases, you may know that another family used that same woman’s eggs, but you probably won’t know who they are.
